quilt bee blocks . . .

For the month of November, our bee was asked to make two Broken Herringbone blocks in one color-scheme per block.  For some reason, this was a hard tutorial for me to follow. I missed a white sashing strip in the blocks and still need to rip out a couple seams to add them in - should be a quick fix though.

And this is my first set of blocks - big fail. I centered them wrong when trimming. Now they sit as two orphan blocks in my craft room and I'm not sure what to turn them into yet . . .

Last night we received a big dump of snow and the kids are enjoying their first cancelled school day this year - too bad it was also the last day before break which means they would have gone ice skating and watched movies all day. But we're enjoying lazing in our pajamas, with plans to make hot chocolate and bake this afternoon.

Turn them into a zipper pouch or a mini pillow, adding some kind of trim, pom poms?

I think they look nice, i did not notice the trimming issue until you mentioned it.

Those blocks are still very pretty! I agree with EvaRose... And they should be made into something! Merry Christmas!

I love the colours! Enjoy your Christmas break!

I was going to comment to turn them into pillows too! They look fine by themselves...otherwise make a bunch more "off centre" cut blocks and make a quilt...that will look like you did it on purpose!

I think they are wondeful, and the colors speak louder than any imperfection. I think they would be lovely additions to a quilt of unique blocks. :)

I think the first set would be fun as part of a pieced backing for the other blocks. Your colors look so good together.

I love these blocks, I'm in the middle of making them in rainbow colours for a quilt as part of a quiltalong on Molli Sparkles' blog (I got a bit behind!). I hate to point this out but do you realise the first set is missing one of the white strips? Just thought I'd mention it in case you had missed it. I love the fabrics you've used in yours.

Your piecing looks perfect to me. Very nice colors and good contrast.
If you pin to your wall where you can see it as you sew, I'm sure you will come up with just the right thing to use these lovely blocks. Merry Christmas!

Those first blocks look great. You can add them to any quilt, and you know that many people will make little mistakes in their quilts as a sign of humility. They could also be turned in to hot pads (I think someone also mentioned this), mug rugs, regular throw pillows (with a substantial border added), and would look great as a tablet case. Too many ideas to list them all here!

When I make a block wrong, I use it on the back of a quilt as my label block, and any others as decorations to make the back fun. Good luck, it's a new pattern to me but I like it a lot.

No one but you would ever know they were trimmed incorrectly so if you like the block make a few more and you'll have a nice bright lap quilt for cool summer evenings.

I don't think these blocks are a big fail at all. I was honestly stunned at how lovely they are! Could they work as part of the backing of the quilt?

The first two are so not a fail. Personally I like the first ones better. :) You could use them as one side of a cute purse or a little multi use bag with a zipper at the top and lining on the inside. I just got one with my pampers points - the inside is lined and you can use them for anything from taking crayons along for the kids to snacks to whatever you want to use them for. The world is your oyster as to what you can do with them. :) Have fun! Looking forward to seeing what you do with them.
